Application of Optimisation and Decision Support to Workforce Planning
Course objectives
- identify problems requiring optimisation and decision support
- describe the solutions provided by optimisation and decision support to resolve them
- implement models for the automatic construction of solutions and interpret the results
Scheduling timetables and human resources are difficult tasks, due to both the growing complexity of working conditions and the need to adapt these resources to corporate requirements, while maintaining quality of service and social harmony.
Many sectors (e.g. airports, hospitals, mass distributors, post offices, banks, just-in-time manufacturing, etc.) need to schedule increasingly long working hours (more than eight hours/day) based on a six or even seven-day workweek. A company's performance in a competitive sector can often be measured by its capacity to adapt to business fluctuations.
This course presents the most common business problems concerning human resources, from strategic planning to creating operational schedules.
Case studies will be analysed, including the implementation of optimisation models under Excel.
This course is intended for practitioners and consultants responsible for designing and implementing decision support systems, or for carrying out studies based on optimisation models. It is also intended for decision-makers using such systems and/or the results of such systems.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to identify problems requiring optimisation and decision support, select suitable methods for solving the problems, apply models for automatically building solutions, and interpret their results.
